MA UKA TO MA KAI
PROGRAMS
Through our Ma Uka to Ma Kai programs—Kahoma upland and Mānaiakalani coastal initiatives—we are restoring native loʻi kalo, streambeds, and marine resources. These efforts are intergenerational and community-led, drawing strength from our relationships with both land and sea.
MĀNAIAKALANI
The waʻa Mānaiakalani was built to bridge past and present, mauka and makai. Through Lele Aloha, we are honored to carry that purpose forward by designing programs that strengthen these connections for our community—especially for our ʻōpio (youth). Named after Māui’s legendary fishhook, Mānaiakalani symbolizes our mission to hook and gather knowledge, cultivating a deeper connection to our ancestors through these programs.

KAHOMA
Kahoma is a place of deep cultural and historical significance, once home to thriving loʻi kalo that nourished Chief Kahekili and the former capital of Lahaina. As a valley long connecting mauka to makai, it continues to sustain that legacy today. Through our summer programming, keiki have the opportunity to work in the loʻi kalo, contributing their mana to this place while learning about our environment and the mahiʻai traditions carried forward by the community since the restoration of water to the stream.
