The Maka or Maka Lāʻau is the spar of the canoe, that hold the sail open. Adjusting the spar, adjusts the sail space providing the right area for varyingwindconditions.

Hoe

The hoe is the paddle. The paddle steers the canoe keeping course. The best crew are experienced on the hoe.

Every part of the waʻa and every crew member is essential for us to embark on this journey to ʻInana Hou. In 2025, we are dedicated to supporting Lahaina’s generational housing goals and raising funds for a much-needed community hub—a place where our ʻāina and ʻohana can gather, heal, and thrive. Together, we can ʻĪnana Hou, creating a legacy of strength, kuleana, and aloha for the generations to come.
